President Rodrigo Roa Duterte led the commemoration of the 121st anniversary of the martyrdom of the country’s national hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal, at the Rizal National Monument in Rizal Park, City of Manila.
The President, together with Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff General Rey Leonardo Guerrero, National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) Acting Chairman Dr. Rene Escalante, NHCP Executive Director Ludovico Badoy, Manila City Mayor Joseph Estrada, Order of the Knights of Rizal Supreme Commander Atty. Reynato Puno, as well as other government and military officials and employees, participated in the flag-raising ceremony that was conducted simultaneously in other designated historical sites nationwide.
This was followed by the wreath-laying ceremony at the Rizal National Monument where President Duterte paid his homage to Dr. Jose P. Rizal.
After the ceremonies, the Chief Executive took time to greet the attendees in the event that included the descendants of the Rizal clan, members of the diplomatic corps, veterans, teachers, students, representatives of non-governmental organizations, sectoral representatives, and the Filipino public.
