Built in 1993, Zojoji Temple is the main temple of the Jodo Sect of Buddhism located inside Shiba Park. It was the family temple of the Tokugawa clan which ruled Japan in the Edo era before becoming the mausoleum of six Tokugawa Shoguns and their families.
The main gate, Sangedatsumon, stands at 21-meters high and was constructed in 1605 during the contemporary Chinese Tang Dynasty style. Within the grounds of the Sangedatsumon gate hangs the giant 15-ton bell cast in 1673.
