President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. lauded the P.J. Lhuillier Group of Companies and its flagship brand, Cebuana Lhuillier, for its initiative in launching ‘Kanegosyo Center’ to assist budding and current business owners in a ceremonial program at the Palacio de Memoria in Roxas Boulevard, Parañaque City.
During the event, the President shared how the idea of Kanegosyo Center (KNC) came about after an extensive discussion with Ambassador Philippe Jones Lhuillier, Philippine Ambassador to Spain, back in 2020. The idea was eventually fleshed out after meeting the Ambassador’s son, Jean Henri Lhuillier, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Cebuana Lhuillier.
“In terms of the involvement of the government, this has been three (3) years in the making… and like a good businessman, he made sure that things were in place,” he said. He added that the concept and principles of Kanegosyo is simple yet requires a good deal of organization, knowledge and an understanding of the market, in order to provide services in the best interests of the MSMEs.
The Chief Executive also expressed that his Administration has included ‘nano’ enterprises in the MSME category, which operate under the radar and do not significantly impact the overall economic activity.
“These are the people that we are trying to help… We are trying to create an ecosystem for startups,” he said. He further emphasized that with 99.5% of Philippine business enterprises being registered as MSMEs and employing 63% of the country’s workforce, the Administration needs to step in and encourage programs like Kanegosyo.
“This is a program that brings many, many elements together, and I am sure that if we continue to be committed to work hard and to be sensitive to the needs of the people, magiging successful naman siguro ang ating mga ginagawa sa pagtulong, and to create that ecosystem for the small businesses to be able to thrive and hopefully turn small businesses into larger businesses as they go down the road,” the President concluded.
