Brunei Museum is the national museum of Brunei Darussalam and is the largest in the entire country. Located in about five kilometers off Bandar Seri Begawan, this establishment was officially opened in 1972. It has different exhibition galleries and one is the Islamic Art Gallery displaying wide sorts of Islamic art collections from different periods owned by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah.
Another showcase is The History and Technology of Brunei Darussalam’s Petroleum Gallery, presenting narratives on the history of the petroleum industry in the country, the origin of oil, and the processes of drilling and refining.
At the Brunei Traditional Culture Gallery, the artifacts being displayed show the culture of the Bruneian people from birth till marriage, while at the Natural History Gallery, there is a wide range of natural history subjects presented in a diorama to create a more realistic display of the natural habitat.
Finally, the Brunei Darussalam Archeology and History Exhibition Gallery shows the history of the country from its earlier beginnings up to its independence in 1984.
The museum can be reached through public transport and its admission is free of charge.
