President Benigno S. Aquino III graced the inauguration ceremony of Brother Industries (Philippines), Inc. Factory 1 located at the First Philippine Industrial Park in Tanauan City, Batangas.

The facility was finished last February 2013 and manufactures ink cartridges of Brother’s inkjet printer and All-in-Ones.  More than 400 Filipino employees are working in Factory 1.  Currently, Factory 2 is under construction and is set to be finished by September of this year.  Once both factories are in full operation, an estimated 3,500 Filipinos will be employed by 2015.

“This is not just the inauguration of a factory for Brother Industries: this is the latest achievement for a worldwide operation spanning 44 countries and regions, and another indicator of confidence in the Filipino people…No company would decide to invest 5.59 billion pesos, construct two different facilities, and eventually hire a 3,500-strong workforce on a whim.  For Brother Industries, the Philippines was the strategic choice,” President Aquino said.

He added that the country’s manufacturing sector has been on an upswing in recent years and cited that for the first quarter of 2013, “manufacturing grew by 9.7 percent, making it one of the biggest contributors to economic growth.”

Brother Industries (Philippines), Inc. was established in March 2012 as a subsidiary of Brother Industries, Ltd. in order to meet the increasing demands for the printing business which is the core business of the Japan-based Brother Group.  It is set to produce three major printer-related products which are the cartridge for inkjet printer, tape of label printer and printer main body.

As a company, Brother has been in existence for more than one hundred years and started its business in the repair of sewing machines before venturing into production within Japan and exporting around the globe.
