General Santos City
06 March 2013
President Benigno S. Aquino III was briefed by DPWH Undersecretary Romeo S. Momo on the ongoing GSC circumferential road upon his visit in General Santos City.
The project which costs P1.135 billion pesos has a total length of 27.6 kilometers and is expected to yield at least 54 percent economic internal rate of return (EIRR). Around 20% reduction of traffic volume along the Digos-Makar and Makar- Kiamba road is also expected upon completion of the project.
Moreover, travel time in the western section from Makar-Marbel to GenSan airport and fishport will significantly reduce by 42% while the distance along northern section will be shortened by 25%, or 44% reduction in travel time compared to the existing Digos-Makar road.
The GSC circumferential road project will primarily support the city’s plan to establish a free port for industrial and export processing. The President was assisted by General Santos City Mayor Darlene Antonino-Custodio and Mindanao Development Authority Chairperson Luwalhati Antonino.
