On the sidelines of the ASEAN-ROK Commemorative Summit in Busan, Korea, President Benigno S. Aquino III and Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak held a bilateral meeting where they discussed bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.
He was joined by the members of the Cabinet such as Finance Secretary Cesar Purisima, Trade and Industry Secretary Gregory Domingo, Cabinet Secretary Rene Almendras, Communications Secretary Sonny Coloma and Presidential Management Secretary (PMS) Julia Abad.
Relations between the Philippines and Malaysia are deep and longstanding being ASEAN partners and neighbors. Their diplomatic relations have been developed through the years since the establishment of a Philippine legation in Kuala Lumpur in 1959.
Malaysia is the Philippines’ 11th largest trading partner as of December 2013 and its 11th major tourism market with more than 109,000 Malaysian tourists visiting the Philippines in 2013.
