President Benigno S. Aquino III invited Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev to enhance trade cooperation with the Philippines in the fields of information technology- business process outsourcing, processed and specialty food, energy and renewables, design-driven products and aerospace.
The two sides agree on intensifying bilateral relations and promising more trade exchanges during their bilateral meeting on the margins of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting (AELM) Week in PICC, Manila.
President Aquino noted the great potential in large-scale public and private sector contracts, such as AG&P’s participation in the Yamal LNG project in the Far East.
He also took the opportunity to convey his condolences to Prime Minister Medvedev over the Metrojet Flight 9268 crash on October 31 in Egypt.
Prime Minister Medvedev, on the other hand, congratulated President Aquino for the impressive performance of the country’s economy, and that Russia wants to boost its economic cooperation with the Philippines in terms of energy, telecommunications, and transport infrastructure.
He extended an invitation for the Philippines to attend the transportation expo in Moscow next year.
Medvedev also added that Russia is open to a military and defense cooperation, as well as training Filipino students.
Russia and the Philippines are celebrating 40 years of diplomatic relations next year.
