President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and First Lady Louise Araneta Marcos received a warm welcome from United States President Joseph Biden and First Lady Jill Biden as they arrived at the White House in Washington, D.C.
The two Presidents held a bilateral meeting wherein the U.S. President announced the sending of a Presidential Trade and Investment Mission to the Philippines to enhance the American companies’ investments in innovation economy, clean energy transition, critical minerals sector and food security.
President Biden reaffirmed the iron-clad commitment of the U.S. to the defense of the Philippines, including its continuing support for military modernization, and stressed that both countries not only share a strong partnership but deep friendship enriched by the presence of Filipino-Americans in the U.S.
For his part, President Marcos Jr. stated that the country “looks to its sole treaty partner” to strengthen alliances and partnerships in the face of the new economy, post-pandemic world and geopolitical issues in the region where the Philippines is located.
“I welcome very much the opportunity to come here, to visit with you in the White House and to discuss all these important issues,” the Philippine Chief Executive ended in his remarks.
