President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and President Emmanuel Macron of France held a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the 29th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting (AELM) at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok, Thailand.

According to the Office of the Press Secretary (OPS), President Marcos Jr. described the meeting as ‘very extensive and quite productive’ as the two Leaders tackled different issues concerning the region that impact the economy, particularly agriculture, energy and defense.

The Chief Executive also discussed matters of defense cooperation with President Macron, where he pointed out the ‘interconnectivity not only in the global economy, but even political structures around the world’.

This is President Marcos Jr.’s first meeting with the French President. The two Leaders spoke with each other via telephone conversation last September.

President Marcos Jr. and President Macron both attended the 29th AELM where the latter is an invited guest at the APEC Leaders’ Informal Dialogue that tackled various ways of promoting sustainable trade and investment amid the ongoing economic challenges in the Asia-Pacific region.
