to the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit
Sydney, Australia
March 17-18, 2018
Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano embarks on a trip to the Commonwealth of Australia to attend the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) – Australia Special Summit on March 17-18, 2018.
The Secretary is attending the Summit as a Special Representative of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and as an official of the Government of the Philippines, being a member nation in the ASEAN. He is also set to attend a reception hosted by the Australia Philippines Business Council (APBC) on March 16, 2018 and meet with the Filipino community on the last day of his visit.
The Summit is Australia’s first with the ASEAN Leaders. Since becoming the region’s first dialogue partner in 1974 and its strategic partner in 2014, the country has been supportive of ASEAN’s inclusive and economically integrated regional community.
With the hosting of the Special Summit, Australia aims to build deeper cooperation with the ASEAN and to strengthen both parties’ joint contribution to regional security and prosperity.
