Attendance of Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano to the 72nd United Nations General Assembly

Foreign Affairs (DFA) Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano embarks on a trip to the United States of America to attend the 72nd United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York on September 19-23, 2017.
The Secretary attends the UNGA as the representative of the Government of the Philippines, being a member nation in the UN. He is also one of the speakers in the High Level General Debate where he will address Heads of State/Government from different UN member countries and other foreign representatives.
Secretary Cayetano is also set to deliver a speech at the Asia Society on September 21, 2017 about the current administration’s foreign policies – the Philippines’ relations with the US and China, its thrust in seeking a more independent foreign policy, and measures in addressing territorial disputes.
The UNGA formally opened its 72nd Session on September 12, 2017. Its annual general debate aims to create an avenue where world leaders share their views on current events.
The Philippines became a member state of the UN on October 24, 1945 when the government signed the United Nations Charter in San Francisco, USA together with 49 other nations.
After his activities in the UN assembly, Secretary Cayetano proceeds to an Official Visit to Washington, DC, where he is set to meet with a few American senior government officials and the Filipino community.
