President Benigno S. Aquino III participated at the ASEAN Leaders’ Meeting with Representatives of ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA).

In his statement, President Aquino said that the most certain way to achieve prosperity and stability is to encourage people to tread the straight path to equitable progress and to have a positive manner in the face of changing circumstances in the region. He said that the leaders are called to greater cooperation and should work harder to ensure the well-being of the people.
He added that the assembly will provide a unique opportunity to address the emerging concerns of Southeast Asia such as dealing with the adverse effects of climate change, finding ways to combat pandemics and transnational crime, and upholding the rule of law in this part of the world.

The President also accentuated the protection of the rights of migrant workers, women and children, as well as other vulnerable sectors of society.  Likewise, President Aquino believed that a deeper engagement and solidarity between AIPA and ASEAN is crucial in realizing the shared vision of a region that is more harmonious, inclusive and equitably progressive.
