“As the two regional organizations located astride the major sea gates and vital corridors of the world’s commerce and communications, it is imperative that we work together to promote peace, security and stability in both our regions,” President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. said as he urged fellow leaders from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to uphold rules-based international order to ensure harmony to the rest of the world.

The President made these remarks during the ASEAN-GCC Summit in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia where he expressed the Philippines’ concern over the recent turmoil in some parts of the world, including the Israel and Gaza conflict.

“We hope that all parties will exert their utmost efforts to deescalate the situation, stop all violence and engage in dialogue and diplomacy,” he conveyed, emphasizing the need to establish concrete areas of cooperation and complementary working relationships.

Moreover, he welcomed the adoption of the ASEAN-GCC Framework of Cooperation 2024-2028 that will serve as guide for both regional blocs under the political-security, economic and socio-cultural pillars, adding that this document will chart the path forward with greater political will.

“The Philippines looks forward to advancing our common interests, particularly on energy and food security, enhancement of logistics and supply chains, the digital economy, and the free and secure flow of goods, people and services that currently underpin an interdependent global economy,” the Chief Executive affirmed.

“The Philippines remains strongly committed to support a meaningful partnership with GCC countries for peace in our regions and the prosperity of our peoples,” President Marcos Jr. concluded in his intervention.
