President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. joined his fellow Leaders convening for the 42nd Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit at the Meruorah Komodo Waecicu Beach in Labuan Bajo, Indonesia.
President Joko Widodo of Indonesia, this year’s Chairperson, formally welcomed the Philippine President along with other Leaders from the ASEAN Member States including Timor-Leste, which is the 11th ASEAN Member under observer status.
Upon arriving at the Meruorah Komodo Convention Center, which serves as the venue for the 42nd ASEAN Summit, Leaders signed a guest book to commemorate the event, ensuing to a traditional ASEAN family photo session.
Established in 1967, the taking of the ASEAN family photo has been a tradition that symbolizes the unity and cooperation among the 10 Member States, showcasing their commitment to working together towards regional integration, peace and prosperity. It has since become an iconic symbol of ASEAN’s collective efforts towards regional development and cooperation. With the theme, ‘ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth,’ the 42nd ASEAN Summit aims to strengthen economic recovery in the region and make Southeast Asia the world’s engine of sustainable growth.
