President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. arrived in Jakarta, Indonesia to participate in the 43rd Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit and Related Summits from September 5 to 7, 2023.

The President, together with First Lady Louise Araneta Marcos and the rest of the Philippine delegation, landed at the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport onboard a Philippine Airlines chartered flight PR001 at 6:00 PM (Jakarta time) on September 4, 2023.

Ambassador Gina Jamoralin of the Philippine Embassy in Jakarta and Indonesian officials greeted the Chief Executive and the First Lady upon their arrival.

This visit of President Marcos Jr. follows the invitation of President Joko Widodo of Indonesia who is this year’s Chair of the ASEAN Summit.

In his departure statement at Villamor Air Base (VAB), the President reiterated his stand on promoting a rules-based international order in the South China Sea. He will also advocate for strengthening food security, calling for climate justice, tapping the potential of digital and creative economies, protecting migrant workers in crisis situations and combatting Trafficking-in-Persons.

He expressed his eagerness to meet with fellow ASEAN Leaders and Dialogue Partners with the intention of deepening partnerships and fostering cooperation in areas such as trade and investment, climate action, food security, clean energy and maritime cooperation.

Under the theme ‘ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth,’ the 43rd ASEAN Summit and Related Summits serve as a platform for Member Leaders and Dialogue Partners to exchange views on key regional and international issues, build consensus on matters of mutual interest and provide policy direction for the years to come.

The Leaders will also discuss various international issues including the situation in Myanmar, conflict in Ukraine and geopolitical rivalries in the Indo-Pacific region, among others.
