Set to reaffirm the strong diplomatic relations between the Philippines and the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. warmly welcomed President José Ramos-Horta at the Malacañan Palace.

The Timorese leader is in the Philippines for a four-day State Visit beginning November 8 until November 11, 2023. He is set to engage on a bilateral discussion with the Chief Executive to further advance their two nations’ cooperation, particularly in economy, education, health and technical partnerships, among other areas.

During a meeting at the sidelines of the 42nd Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit in Indonesia last May 2023, President Marcos Jr. expressed support to Timor-Leste towards becoming a full-pledged member of the regional bloc, saying that the Philippines has always been supportive and a partner to the said country.
