President Benigno S. Aquino III arrived at NAIA Terminal II after his attendance at the 24th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit held in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar from May 10 to 11, 2014.

President Aquino, along with nine other Southeast Asian leaders, attended the 24th ASEAN Summit that focused mainly on the further strengthening of the security of their nations, securing the welfare of the ASEAN people, addressing the issue of climate change, and dealing with territorial disputes. Likewise, the success of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB) was also highlighted.

President Aquino expressed his delight as he considered his trip to the summit a success, saying, “sa pamamagitan ng makabuluhang dayalogo, nakapaglatag po tayo, kasama ang iba pang miyembro ng ASEAN, ng istratehiya upang maging tuluy-tuloy ang pag-unlad sa rehiyon.”

He added that the Philippines’ participation at the ASEAN Summit clearly showed the country’s willingness to contribute to the further strengthening of the relation between Southeast Asian nations.

“Sa patuloy ninyong pagtitiwala, at sa mas maigting nating pakikipag-ugnayan at pakikipagtulungan sa ating mga karatig na bansa, aanihin ng susunod na henerasyon ang mga bunga ng ipinunla nating maunlad na Pilipinas sa isang maunlad na ASEAN,” President Aquino said.
