President Rodrigo Roa Duterte arrived at the Jacksons International Airport in Port Moresby for his participation to the 26th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting (AELM) in Papua New Guinea on November 17-18, 2018.

The President’s aircraft touched down at 6:05 am (4:05 am Philippine Standard Time) on November 16, 2018 in the capital city of Papua New Guinea.

He was welcomed by the Philippine Embassy officials in Papua New Guinea led by Ambassador Bienvenido Tejano and representatives from the Papuan national government composed of Finance Minister James Marape, Environment and Conservation Minister John Pundari, Supreme Court Chief Justice Gibbs Salika, and Chargé d’Affaires Nawi Bokuik.

President Duterte is one of the 21 leaders from the APEC Member Economies who is attending this year’s AELM with the theme, ‘Harnessing Inclusive Opportunities, Embracing the Digital Future’.

He is also the first Philippine Chief Executive to visit Papua New Guinea. Later in the afternoon, he is set to meet with about a thousand members of the Filipino community in a gathering.
