President Rodrigo Roa Duterte conducted an aerial inspection of areas severely affected by Tropical Storm (TS) ‘Auring’ in the Caraga Region, particularly in the provinces of Surigao del Norte and Surigao del Sur, and led a situation briefing in Tandag City, Surigao del Sur.

Considered as the worst flooding in its local history, several towns have been submerged in floodwater due to incessant rainfall and swelling of the Tandag River in Surigao del Sur.

According to the latest report released by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on 22 February 2021 (Monday), a total of 13,816 families or 53,236 persons have been affected in 216 barangays from Northern Mindanao, Davao Region and Caraga Region. Of this number, 12,825 families or 49,236 persons are currently taking temporary shelters in 308 evacuation centers.

Following the situation briefing, President Duterte and Senator Christopher Lawrence ‘Bong’ Go witnessed the ceremonial turnover of relief goods to the local government of Tandag City.
