The All India War Memorial or the India Gate was built in commemoration of the 82,000 Indian Army soldiers who lost their lives during World War I and the Third Anglo-Afghan War. The names of around 13,300 soldiers from the United Kingdom are shown on the gate, which was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens.

Every January 26th, the India Gate Parade or the Republic Day Parade, which is the most ceremonious event in India, takes place in front of the gate.
