Built in 1866 by King Norodom I, the Royal Palace complex is the royal residence of the king of Cambodia and a magnificent landmark in Phnom Penh. Former King Norodom Sihanouk who died on October 15, 2012 in Beijing, China is now being mourned by Cambodians as his body lies in state in the Royal Palace. His eldest son, His Majesty Norodom Sihamoni succeeded him after his abdication in 2004.

The Sisowath Quay located near the Royal Palace is along the junction of the Mekong and Tonle Sap River . The quay is a 3km strip lined with hotels, restaurants, bars, cafes and shops. It is a favourite place for tourists and locals to hang out and take a stroll.
