Gwanghwamun is the main and largest gate of the Gyeongbukgung or Gyeongbok Palace, the main and most important royal palace during the Joseon Dynasty. It was first constructed in 1395 and has gone through major restoration before it was opened to the public in 2010.

Watching the ceremony of the changing of the Royal Guards, which is held three times a day, is one of the favorite activities of foreign tourists in Gwanghamun.
