President Benigno S. Aquino III, together with leaders of other member economies met with members of APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) to articulate the nation’s initiatives in promoting disaster resilience, small, micro and medium enterprises (SMMEs) and financial inclusion and domestic governance.
The President joined ABAC Group 5 Discussion, chaired by Mr. Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala, Chairman of the Ayala Group of Companies, together with economic leaders from Brunei, Mexico and Russia. Other business leaders from Australia, Chile, China, Japan, Korea, Peru, Malaysia, Thailand and USA were also present in the discussion.
With this year’s theme: “Building Asia Pacific Community, Mapping Long-Term Prosperity”, the dialogue hopes to focus on several priorities: Accelerating Regional Economic Integration, Championing Sustainable Development, Supporting SMMEs & Fostering Entrepreneurship, Strengthening Infrastructure and Connectivity.
The APEC Business Advisory Council provides business-specific advice to APEC leaders on the implementation of the Osaka Action Agenda (OAA), trade and investment liberalization and facilitation (TILF), economic and technical cooperation (ECOTECH), and other priorities specifically related to the business sector. Membership is composed of up to three senior representatives of the business sector from each member economy. It was established in 1995 and formally recognized by the APEC Ministers in 2005 as one of the five categories of delegates to attend APEC official meetings.
