Best known as the busiest place in Madrid, it is the center or kilometer zero of the radial network of Spanish roads. Originally, it was one of the gates in the city wall that surrounded Madrid in the 15th century. In the north side of the Post Office, there is a kilometer zero plaque mounted in the ground which serves as the symbolic center of Madrid.
