President Benigno S. Aquino III graced the 80th Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) anniversary celebration at the Haribon Hangar in Clark Air Base, Pampanga.

Bearing the theme “AFP @80: Advancing, Transforming to Protect the People and Secure the State,” the celebration featured the recent acquisition of two C-130 aircrafts, three C-295 medium-lift transports, two Landing Craft Heavy (LCH) vessels and troop carrier trucks.

Under President Aquino’s administration, the AFP underwent a series of modernization programs—overhauling the AFP’s armaments and military equipment for five years. This includes the procurement of the BRP Ramon Alcaraz, BRP Gregorio Del Pilar, FA-50 fighter jets, combat utility and attack helicopters, multi-purpose attack crafts, armored personnel carrier, rifles and night fighting system.

Several AFP members were also recognized during the awarding ceremony for exhibiting exemplary dedication, passion to service and bravery in their field of duty.

In his speech, President Aquino noted the valuable contributions and efforts of these soldiers in their respective fields. He also expressed his gratitude for the unwavering service of the members of the AFP.

This year’s AFP anniversary celebration marks his last as President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
