President Rodrigo Roa Duterte led the 80th anniversary of the Department of National Defense (DND) at the Armed Forces of the Philippines Commissioned Officers Club (AFPCOC) in Camp General Emilio Aguinaldo, Quezon City.
In his message, the President recognized the invaluable contribution of the DND in “national development through the effective formulation and implementation of policies and effective management of resources to ensure our safety and protect our territorial integrity and sovereignty.”
He assured the Department of his administration’s commitment towards the full implementation of the modernization programs that will enhance its capabilities.
“I am hopeful that this milestone will inspire you to work harder for an environment that will be the bedrock of a safer and more prosperous society for the present and future generations. Be assured that the entire Filipino nation is behind you as we advance the common good and pursue genuine reforms for our motherland,” President Duterte said. Prior to the President’s speech, DND Secretary Delfin Lorenzana gave a briefing on the newly purchased firearms and ammunitions prepositioned at the Tejeros Hall.
With the theme “Nagkakaisang Kagawaran Para sa Ligtas at Mapayapang Bayan”, the ceremony also recognized the DND’s outstanding personnel through the conferment of the Outstanding Achievement Award to Colonel Joel M. Paloma of the Philippine Army (PA) and Lieutenant Colonel Maria Consuelo N. Castillo of the Philippine Air Force (PAF).
