President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. conveyed his deepest appreciation towards the Philippine Marine Corps (PMC) for safeguarding the interest and fostering peace and order in the country as he joined the celebration of PMC’s 72nd Birthday at the Naval Station Jose Francisco in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.
In his remarks, President Marcos Jr. underscored the important contributions of PMC in nation building such as helping in securing the country’s safety and welfare from disasters and emergencies, as well as from armed communist forces.
“Indeed, your determination and valor protecting our nation from various threats to our peace and security is a testament not only to your faithfulness to your duty, but also your loyalty and patriotism to the motherland,” the Commander-in-Chief remarked.
He expressed his hopes that the PMC continues to demonstrate exemplary performance and nationalism that can be passed on to the next generation of Marines. He also reassured that the government remains committed in enhancing the capabilities of the PMC through available resources that will fulfill the Marine Corps’ responsibilities and full potential in the process.
“I am confident that we will be able to protect the Republic of the Philippines from all threats, sustain our identity, and promote our national interests for the benefit of all,” President Marcos Jr. affirmed as he promised to continue supporting the whole Armed Forces of the Philippines.
With this year’s theme, “Team Marines @ 72: Katuwang ng Bawat Pilipino tungo sa Mapayapa, Maunlad at Nagkakaisang Bansa,” the PMC commemorated its notable achievements established by its forefathers in the past seven (7) decades. In a Facebook post, the Philippine Marines reassured its commitment to stand by with the Filipino people in pursuit of peace and development.
During the event, President Marcos Jr. led the awarding of various individuals and the ceremonial cutting of cake. Top officials and officers from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Department of National Defense (DND) and PMC accompanied the President in the event. He also received a memento of ‘Ginunting Bolo,’ a principal bladed weapon of the Filipino martial arts ‘Pekiti-Tirsia Kali’ used by the PMC which is also its official weapon during close hand to hand combat fighting.
