70th Anniversary of the Leyte Gulf Landing

In 1944, three years into the Japanese occupation, the Philippines witnessed an epic battle which changed the course of history and eventually restored the freedom that Filipinos enjoy today.

On 20 October 2014, the country will celebrate the anniversary of the Leyte Gulf Landing where 70 years ago, United States General Douglas MacArthur fulfilled his promise of returning to the Philippines.

President Benigno S. Aquino III will attend the ceremony which will be held at the MacArthur Landing Memorial National Park in Palo, Leyte.
