President Rodrigo Roa Duterte attended the 64th Araw ng Hagonoy in the municipality of Hagonoy, Davao del Sur.
By virtue of Executive Order No. 596 issued by former President Elpidio Quirino on May 28, 1953, Hagonoy was separated from the municipality of Padada and became a regular municipality.
With this year’s theme, “Pagsalig sa Kahitas-an ug Paningkamot, Mauswagong Hagonoy Makab-ot,’ the municipality commemorated its 64th founding anniversary with the vision of transforming Hagonoy into an agri-industrial area that could compete with the best municipalities in the whole country.
The local government of Hagonoy organized a series of activities and events to celebrate the week-long commemoration of its 64th anniversary, such as an agri-trade fair for small-time entrepreneurs, motocross competition for the motorcycle enthusiasts and the local people, nightly entertainment activities, and the Mutya ng Hagonoy that showcased the beauty and intelligence of the women candidates.
“I’m encouraging all my constituents that we have to strive hard as I’ve said, that this mission is an attainable one, provided that we should be united and we will be striving hard for this para sa ganun maabot namin ang progressive Hagonoy!” Mayor Conrada Laza said in her message.
In President Duterte’s speech, he expressed his gratitude to the people of Hagonoy for inviting him to visit their municipality and advised them regarding their vision of making their area a progressive one.
“This is a new relative province actually, going by the standards diri sa Mindanao medyo bag-o mo unya you have to make your province and municipality competitive. And if you make it a city there are certain requirements of your income and population but more than the two standards you have to have something more… Nahimuot diay ko’g dako na nabalik ko ngari especially nga si Conrad ang mayor, he has served me well and good so niingon ko na magka langan langan ko pero mubisita gyud ko’g Hagonoy (…I am very much grateful that I was able to go back here especially Conrad is currently the mayor, he has served me well and good so I said… I may arrive late but I will surely visit Hagonoy),” the President said.
Hagonoy’s municipal and barangay officials, sectoral groups, and officers from the national line agencies stationed in the municipality attended the 64th Araw ng Hagonoy celebration.
