President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. addressed the attendees of the 55th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) at the EDSA Shangri-La Hotel in Mandaluyong City.

The Chief Executive’s participation in this year’s Annual Meeting marked the commitment of the Philippines in ensuring an efficient and effective utilization of ADB’s assistance for the full benefit of all Filipinos, especially in coping with the challenges of the post-pandemic world.

President Marcos Jr. acknowledged the ADB “for being a steadfast partner in achieving the Philippines’ development goals.”

He expressed his appreciation to the ADB for providing the Philippines with US$3 million grant which was used in the procurement of medical supplies for health workers at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We also recognize ADB for allowing us to access the CARES Program, a quick-disbursing budget support facility to aid countries in mitigating the severe economic shocks caused by the pandemic,” he added.

The Chief Executive further assured, “that the government’s relationship with the ADB will only grow stronger in the years to come, harnessing the mutual cooperation here in our country together with our partners around the world and in the Region.”

The premier forum where various issues on economic and social developments within Asia and the Pacific Region are discussed also served as an avenue to “provide guidance on ADB administrative, financial and operational directions”.

This is the fourth day of the 55th ADB Annual Meeting where the discussion centered on Managing Asia’s Energy Transition and Pathways to Sustainable Green Growth in the Time of COVID-19 Recovery.

Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, Special Assistant to the President (SAP) Secretary Antonio Lagdameo Jr. and Department of Finance (DOF) Secretary Benjamin Diokno joined President Marcos Jr. in the event.
