“This government will remain committed in ensuring transparency and good governance, freedom of expression and of the press, and the protection of media practitioners and their rights,” President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. vowed as he lauded the works of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) towards the advancement of the Philippine broadcasting industry for the past five (5) decades.
The President made these remarks during his attendance to the 50th anniversary of the KBP, where he urged the members of the organization to work closely in advancing the present conditions of the media industry to improve the country’s placement in the World Press Freedom Index.
“Take the lead and foster public discussion, truth and credibility, and the rule of law, especially in the practice of broadcasting, news reporting and information dissemination,” he conveyed, underscoring their importance in shaping opinions and triggering social mobilization.
He recognized the KBP’s vital contributions in nation building through its involvement in developing a robust democracy and economy for the country, including its commitment in keeping a highly informed citizenry.
Likewise, he noted that the organization’s role remains crucial as the country continues to confront newer and pressing challenges in the society amid all the changes and advancements, and the passage of fifty years since KBP’s establishment.
“The KBP, through all that, has weathered all these events and changes, and maintained its social relevance, acting as a uniting and balancing force of broadcast organizations. Through the years, the KBP has remained a visible, active and fair advocate of both rights and obligations of its members and industry players,” President Marcos Jr. affirmed in his keynote message.
