President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, together with his fellow Leaders from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), participated in the 4th ASEAN – Russia Summit via virtual convention.
The Summit marked the commemoration of the 30th Anniversary of fruitful Dialogue Relations between the ASEAN region and Russia this year, where Leaders strengthened their commitment with the Russian Federation to continue building enduring partnerships in pursuit of mutual benefits and gains.
The ASEAN Leaders recognized Russia’s strong participation in the discussion of key global issues including regional stability, post-pandemic economic recovery, humanitarian efforts and continuity of trade, among others.
During the Summit, the ASEAN Leaders and President Vladimir Putin exchanged views on several areas of mutual cooperation. These included the adoption of the ASEAN-Russia Plan of Action 2021-2025 aimed at strengthening cooperation in disaster management, cyber security, research and development, and innovation.
As such, the ASEAN Leaders welcomed Russia’s renewed commitment to work with the regional bloc in addressing transnational crimes such as the illegal drug problem and terrorism in the Indo-Pacific Region.
