President Benigno S. Aquino III served as the guest of honor and speaker during the 46th Governing Board Meeting of the Asian Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI) for the period 2012-2015. ASOSAI is one of the Regional Groups of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions. INTOSAI supports its members by providing opportunities to share information and experiences about the auditing and evaluation challenges facing them in today’s changing and increasingly interdependent world.
In his speech, President Aquino reiterated that the cornerstone of his governance philosophy is the efficient allocation of resources. “Before we took office, the Filipino people saw how rampant corruption laid waste to our national coffers—how public funds were used to inflate the bank accounts of a few, instead of being spent on programs and projects that would truly help our people. This is why, from the very beginning, we were determined to reverse the alarming trend of impunity and corruption. This is why we are committed to fighting corruption throughout our term in office, because we know corruption hampers the ability of a government to serve its people,” the President said.
ASOSAI was established in 1979 to promote professionalism, mutual support and understanding through institutional capacity building, knowledge sharing and regional working groups with its 46 member countries. Its vision is to encourage good governance by enhancing the role of the SAIs in improving performance, effectiveness, transparency, and accountability in the public sector.
