President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and his fellow Leaders from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) convene with Prime Minister Scott Morrison of Australia for the 2nd ASEAN-Australia Biennial Summit via virtual convention on November 14, 2020.
This year’s Summit reaffirms the further strengthening of ties between Australia and the ASEAN, having been the first Dialogue Partner of the regional bloc in 1974. Up to this day, Australia remains as one of ASEAN’s top trading partners and has supported the region’s vision of a rules-based, inclusive and economically integrated regional community.
The two parties have worked together in addressing important regional matters including economic growth, countering terrorism and violent extremism, smuggling, human trafficking and protection of migrant workers, among others.
