President Rodrigo Roa Duterte joined the Vice Mayors’ League of the Philippines (VLMP) in their three-day 25th National Convention held in Panglao Island, Bohol.

In his speech, President Duterte affirmed his commitment in making the Philippines a peaceful country. He encouraged the vice mayors, as workers of the government, to help in enforcing the laws to maintain safety and security in the land.

“You read your oath of office. The long and short of that, you can reduce it in two sentences or two -in so many—not in so many words. It simply says, “protect the people and preserve the Republic of the Philippines as a nation.” ‘Yan lang,” he urged.

The President emphasized their vital role in his administration’s campaign againts wrongdoings that made the Filipino people suffer and prevented the country’s develoment for so long.

“As part of the LGUs, you are one of our front liners in bringing the government closer to the people. May you continue to be a partner in helping us attain peace, progress, and prosperity for our communities and our country,” President Duterte said.

This year’s convention of the VLMP focused on on good environmental governance and the enforcement of environmental laws, as well as accountability and compliance, amidst matters concerning preservation and ecological sustainability of the environment.
