Edsa Shrine, Madaluyong City
15 December 2014

President Benigno S. Aquino III attended the mass held at the EDSA Shrine in Mandaluyong City to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the dedication of the shrine to Mary Queen of Peace.

The EDSA Shrine is known as one of the most historical landmarks in the Philippines as it was once the venue where thousands of protesters gathered to end the Marcos regime following the assassination of the late Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino, Jr. On 15 December 1989, the shrine was consecrated by then Archbishop of Manila Jaime Cardinal Sin.

The mass was headed by Father Socrates Villegas, Archbishop of the Diocese of Dagupan. At the end of the solemn eucharistic celebration, the administrators of the EDSA Shrine handed out wooden images of Mary Queen of Peace to certain individuals who contributed to the establishment and development of the shrine. The Aquino family were among the recipients of the wooden image.
