Participation of President Benigno S. Aquino III
at the 21st ASEAN Summit and Related Summits

Under Cambodia’s Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) chairmanship, President Benigno S. Aquino III participated at the 21st ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Phnom Penh from November 18-20.
He joined other leaders of ASEAN member-countries and dialogue partners in the discussions of global issues and concerns. The Philippines continues to advocate for maritime security and cooperation, Code of Conduct in the South China Sea, migrant workers’ protection and welfare, human rights and review of ASEAN Charter.The summit and related summits aim to further strengthen relations and cooperation between member-countries and its dialogue partners.
The President was also in the signing ceremony of the ASEAN Leaders’ Statement on ASEAN Human Rights Declaration and in the official launch of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) negotiation.
This summit’s theme is “ASEAN: One Community, One Destiny” as the bloc moves towards the vision of a one ASEAN community in 2015. This year also marks 45 years of ASEAN.
The Philippines, together with Cambodia, Brunei, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, is among the ten members of ASEAN.
