President Rodrigo Roa Duterte attended the 21st Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) – Japan Summit on the second day of the 33rd ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Singapore.

In his statement, ASEAN 2018 Chairperson and Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong expressed his gratitude for the continued support of Japan to the ASEAN Community. He reiterated that Japan is one of ASEAN’s most substantial and dialogue partners, assuring that the strategic partnership between Japan and ASEAN Member Countries continues to deepen.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister said that the continued relations between Japan and ASEAN paved the way for exploring new areas of cooperation that will provide additional platforms for stronger ties among the nations.

Prime Minister Lee also thanked Japan for supporting the Smart Cities network that is one of the key initiatives of ASEAN this year.
