9 July 2012

President Benigno S. Aquino III graced the 21st anniversary celebration of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) at the Camp General Rafael Crame in Quezon City.

In his speech, President Aquino said that it is the government’s responsibility to improve the correctional system in the country. He then stated the various programs of his administration for BJMP such as the nationwide computerization of the National Inmates Monitoring System (NIMS) which will be implemented by October this year. With this program, the BJMP can now easily access and track different criminal cases and jail records. Aside from NIMS, the government allotted 500 million pesos for the construction of 2,000 housing units for the employees of BJMP at the Bureau of Fire Protection and pensions of retired BJMP employees can now be collected through ATM machines this coming August.

Together with Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo and Jail Chief Superintendent Diony Mamaril, President Aquino also led the awarding ceremonies for the outstanding BJMP employees.

BJMP was created on January 2, 1999 thru Republic Act 6975 as a line bureau of DILG. It is mandated to address the growing jail management and penology problems in the country.
