President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. reaffirmed his Administration’s commitment to pursue digital transformation in government tax collections and vowed to effectively utilize taxes in uplifting the quality of life of every Filipino as he led the kick-off of this year’s National Tax Campaign.

“You have been firm and resolute in modernizing your services and elevating our people’s experiences by utilizing reliable, scalable, robust, sustainable technologies and infrastructure for our country’s tax collection,” said the President in his keynote message, adding that the programs implemented by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) have greatly contributed to national development through its intensified revenue collection.

In 2022, 115 cases were filed with the Department of Justice (DOJ) amounting to PhP5.1 billion in tax liability, while 38 cases were filed with the Court of Tax Appeals amounting to an estimated PhP5.32 billion in estimated tax liability.

Around 5.2 million business taxpayers were covered by the BIR, resulting to a 13 percent growth rate, higher than its target of 3 percent.

President Marcos Jr. also acknowledged the efforts of BIR officials and employees for the successful launch of the 2023 National Tax Campaign, and assured that the Marcos Administration will continue to lend its support to BIR’s mandate to develop a country that is “conducive for employment opportunities, financial investments and institution-building.”

“The endeavors you have pursued not only speak of your zeal and vigor to deliver your mandate but highlight as well the critical role you have played in ensuring that the government’s programs and projects are wholly funded and implemented,” he stated.

The Chief Executive urged the BIR to continue on its path in working “towards further gaining the confidence of the public in the tax system by upholding the highest standards of integrity, professionalism and competence” in the performance of duty.
