President Rodrigo Roa Duterte delivers his second State of the Nation Address (SONA) during the Joint Session of the 17th Congress of the Republic of the Philippines at the House of Representatives in Quezon City.
The President is scheduled to arrive at the rear entrance of Batasang Pambansa at 3:30 pm and will be accorded with arrival honors.
Senate President Aquilino Pimentel III, House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez, and a welcoming committee composed of the Senate Majority Leader, House Majority Floor Leader, Senate Secretary, and the House Secretary-General are set to welcome President Duterte. He is then escorted to the Legislators’ Lounge where the Senate and House of Representatives leaders are waiting for him for a courtesy call. After the meeting, they are set to proceed to the Plenary Hall for the Joint Session of the 17th Congress of the Republic of the Philippines.
Carrying the theme, “A Comfortable Life For All,“ President Duterte’s speech commences at 4:00 pm and intends to focus on the positive changes experienced by the Filipino people that are anchored on the three key agenda of his administration — prosperity for all, law and order, and peace.
He is also set to submit the proposed national budget for 2018 amounting to PhP 3.767 trillion. A big portion of the budget is allocated for education, infrastructure development, and health care.
