PMMA Complex, San Narciso, Zambales
30 May 2012

President Benigno S. Aquino III graced the 189th Commencement Exercises of the Philippine Merchant Marine Academy as its keynote speaker in the province of Zambales.

According to the President, Filipino seafarers remitted up to 4.34 billion dollars last year or 21.58% of the total 20.12 billion dollar remittances of our overseas Filipino workers, which is a large contribution to the country’s economic growth.

He was joined by the local officials of Zambales, Transportation and Communications Secretary Mar Roxas, and Commission on Higher Education Chairperson Patricia Licuanan.

More than two hundred strong graduates of PMMA will now apply what they have learned in the best marine-teaching institution in the country, as competent merchant marine and naval officers. PMMA, one of the oldest institutions in the Philippines today, is an attached agency of the DOTC and under the direct control and supervision of the Commission on Higher Education.
