As the entire nation celebrates the life and legacy of Gat Andres Bonifacio, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. encouraged Filipinos to always look back on the valuable contributions of Bonifacio and the country’s heroes that paved the way to a better Philippines today.

In his remarks during the commemoration of the 159th Birth Anniversary of Andres Bonifacio, President Marcos Jr. underscored the importance of remembering Bonifacio’s bravery and patriotism for the country which should not be forgotten, as this shows the true Filipino identity.

“Bilang mga tagapamana ng kalayaang kanilang ipinaglaban, tungkulin natin bilang mga Pilipino na panatilihing buhay ang diwa ng kanilang mga layunin at siguruhing mapayapa, malaya, at masagana ang ating sambayanan,” the President expressed after leading the flag raising and wreath-laying ceremony at the National Monument of Andres Bonifacio.

The Chief Executive also noted that Filipinos should remain respectful and mindful of the lessons from the country’s rich history as this will serve as a ‘guide towards a better future’ for all Filipinos.

The life of Bonifacio, according to the Chief Executive, is a strong testament of how every citizen can be a hero in their own way if they continue to show patriotism, acknowledging the roles of modern day Filipino heroes such as doctors, nurses, soldiers, police and overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

“At ang bawat Juan at Juana na buong pusong naglilingkod para sa kapwa. Ipinapakita nila na ang bawat isa sa atin ay may angking kakayahan na makagawa ng kabutihan sa ating lipunan at pamayanan,” President Marcos Jr. affirmed.

This year’s celebration of Bonifacio Day focuses on the theme, ‘Bonifacio 2022: Kabayanihan at Pagtindig sa Makabagong Panahon,’ with simultaneous flag raising and wreath-laying ceremonies across the country.

Spearheaded by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), different activities such as webinars, exhibits and lectures have been organized to honor the life and legacy of Gat Andres Bonifacio, anchored on strengthening the Filipino’s patriotism when it comes to Philippine history.
