President Benigno S. Aquino III graced the 111th anniversary celebration of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) at the BIR National Office Compound in Quezon City.
The President cited the efforts and accomplishments of the BIR for the past few years, especially under the leadership of Commissioner Kim Henares wherein for the year 2012, the bureau’s collections went past the trillion peso mark, the first time ever in the country’s history.
Likewise in 2014, BIR’s collections rose to an all-time high of Php 1.3 trillion which prompted President Aquino to challenge Commissioner Henares to raise this year’s tax collection target to Php 1.5 trillion.
In his speech, President Aquino also expressed admiration to his bosses who continue to follow the ‘Daang Matuwid’ especially in paying the right taxes.
“Sa inyong nakitahak sa Daang Matuwid, talagang bilib na bilib ako sa inyo,” he said. “Ang bunga ng lahat ng inyong pinagpaguran: Tuloy-tuloy na pag-angat ng ating bansa at ng kalidad ng buhay ng Pilipino,” the President added.
