Leaders of the Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA), including President Benigno S. Aquino III, met in another meeting after the 24th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit Retreat and discussed bilateral cooperation among the group.

The annual gathering aims to discuss the development on initiatives for the sub-region and guide the ministers and stakeholders in tracking definitive actions that would further strengthen the sub-regional cooperation.

In his statement, the President encouraged investors from Brunei, Indonesia and Malaysia to have a trade fair in Davao City and help generate participation from other countries. Another major project that was reported to the summit was the initial implementation of the BIMP-EAGA Submarine Terrestrial (BEST) cable project, also known as the BIMP-EAGA rink.
