Situated at Long Xang Avenue in Vientiane, the World Peace Gong was presented to the Government of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (PDR) by the World Peace Committee of the Republic of Indonesia on November 22, 2008.

Measuring two meters in diameter and weighing 150 kilograms, the bronze gong was given to Laos for its “contribution to the safeguarding of political stability and security in the region by promoting and strengthening friendly ties with neighboring countries.”

The World Peace Gong originated in the Moria Mountain of Central Java (locally called “peace”) in Indonesia and is widely believed to date back to 450 years.

It has been used at the opening of important international events around the world, such as the Second Global Summit on Peace attended by the United Nations (UN) Secretary General at Geneva, Switzerland on February 5, 2003.

Apart from Laos, the World Peace Gong replica has also been given to China and India.
