State Visit of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte
to Brunei Darussalam
October 16-18, 2016
President Rodrigo Roa Duterte is set to hold a State Visit to Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam on October 16-18, 2016 as part of his rounds among fellow Heads of State/Government (HOS/G) of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member countries.
The three-day visit of the President aims to further strengthen the existing bilateral ties between the Philippines and Brunei established on January 1, 1984.
President Duterte is expected to have an audience and a bilateral meeting with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei at Istana Nurul Iman, where the President will be accorded official honors.
The President’s get together with about 6,000 members of the Filipino community at Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex, which would be his first official engagement in Brunei, also highlights his visit to the Sultanate.
Brunei would have been the President’s first official international trip last September as Chief Executive. He cancelled the trip following a bombing in Davao City.
