President Rodrigo Roa Duterte visited the wake of SPO1 Niño Moreño at the late police officer’s residence in Tagum City.

SPO1 Moreño was killed on June 23, 2017 (approximately 8:00 am) in a firefight against the Lawless Armed Group (LAG) that attacked a detachment post of the Philippine National Police (PNP) at the Davao del Norte Provincial Public Safety Company, 2nd Maneuvering Platoon in Purok 3, Barangay New Malitbog, Panabo City.

He was hit by a gunshot that came from the LAG and fell down from the third floor to the second floor of the detachment perimeter post tower. He was brought to the Regional Hospital in Tagum City but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

The investigating team of Panabo City recovered eighteen (18) pieces of fired cartridges from a caliber M14 rifle, forty-one (41) pieces of fired cartridges from a caliber M16 recovered inside the police detachment, and four (4) pieces of fired cartridges from a caliber M16 recovered outside the PNP detachment post.

President Duterte took time to talk to the family of the killed police officer and expressed his condolences to the bereaved family.
