President Rodrigo Roa Duterte conferred the posthumous Order of Lapu-Lapu with the Rank of Magalong and the Medal of Valor to the killed-in-police-operation (KIPO) personnel, Police Senior Master Sergeant (PSMSgt.) Jason Magno during his wake visit in Initao, Misamis Oriental.

The awards were received by the late officer’s wife, Mrs. Vivian Magno.

On November 28, 2019, PSMSgt. Magno died in a grenade blast in Initao College where he responded by shielding others from the blast. Based on the report of the authorities, the Initao Police station received a call about a suspect identified as Ebrahim Ampaso Basher, walking within the college premises with a grenade.

The incident injured sixteen (16) other people including a responding policewoman, PSMSgt. Alice Balido.

The Order of Lapu-Lapu, Rank of Magalong is awarded to officials and personnel of the government and private individuals who have rendered extraordinary service or have made exceptional contributions to the success of an activity pursuant to the advocacy of the current administration.

Likewise, the Philippine National Police (PNP) Medal of Valor is the PNP’s highest honor awarded for a deed of personal bravery and self-sacrifice above and beyond the call of duty so conspicuous as to distinguish himself clearly above his comrades in the performance of more than ordinary hazardous service.
